Do you "RUN" when you hear the words "Digital and AI Transformation"?
Digital and AI transformation conversations for any organisation should now be part of business as usual. If you are not thinking about it, you are falling, if not already behind!
In my experience, any organisation that is not thinking about or investing in technology and AI as part of their business strategy will suddenly wake up and start adopting any available technology or AI tools reactively. This results in a complex, cobbled-together technology and AI environment.
Utilising technology and AI as part of your business strategy is an intentional, not a reactive, choice.
The approach I have taken in organisations is to start that discussion early, before we are pressured to "catch up" and adopt the latest shiny tech object for the sake of being seen as doing Digital and AI Transformation.
Here are a few points (certainly not all of them) to guide you in the right direction:
ā Be clear on the expected business outcomes in your business strategy
ā Clarify how you want your technology strategy to help deliver on these business outcomes
ā Set up a leadership team with a clear mandate to oversee and make decisions
ā If you have the opportunity, "Try before you buy"
ā Separate experimentation from operational change
ā Involve the people who will live with the technology every day
ā Communicate your plan, share lessons learnt and celebrate your achievements
Before adopting the next technology, AI platform, or capability, slow down, pause, and ask: Are we responding to pressure, or do we have the foundation to build something that will enable our organisation to grow and flourish?
