What Leaders Don’t Need to Say

Has 2026 started with a lack of clarity? Not everything a leader carries needs to be shared.
I am sure you have been told, "Communication is Key!" At the start of a new year, there’s pressure to communicate certainty, confidence, and momentum.
I have learnt the hard way that knowing when to exercise restraint as a leader matters.
For me, this has sometimes looked like:
Not rushing to fill silence with answers
Not passing anxiety down the line
Not reacting to every signal or opinion
Not mistaking motion for progress
This isn’t about withholding information at all! It’s a judgement call, choosing to communicate calmly while managing uncertainty behind the scenes.
Our Teams don’t need a live feed of every doubt or decision in motion. They need stability, clarity, and space to do their work well.
You need to realise that early in the year, what you choose not to project can matter as much as what you do.
What are you doing to manage your communication at the start of 2026?
